How We Review Mattresses
Our reviews are the result of rigorous, independent testing. Here's exactly how we evaluate every mattress.
Our Principles
Independence
Brands cannot pay for better scores. We accept review units but our scores are based entirely on performance.
Rigor
Every mattress is tested for a minimum of 30 nights by real testers across different sleep positions and body types.
Transparency
We disclose all affiliate relationships. We earn commissions if you buy through our links, but this doesn't influence ratings.
Our 6-Category Scoring System
Each mattress is scored 1-10 in six categories. The final rating is a weighted average reflecting real-world impact on sleep quality.
Comfort (25%)
How does the mattress feel in your preferred sleep position? Does it relieve pressure without creating new pain points? We evaluate initial feel and long-term comfort across 30+ nights.
Support (25%)
Does the mattress keep your spine properly aligned in your primary sleep position? We use spinal alignment photography and tester feedback across multiple body weights.
Cooling (15%)
Does the mattress sleep hot? We measure surface temperature and body heat retention, and gather subjective reports from testers who identify as hot sleepers.
Motion Isolation (15%)
For couples, this is critical. We use a standardized drop test and gather feedback from co-sleeping testers on sleep disturbance from partner movement.
Edge Support (10%)
Can you sleep near the edge without rolling off? We evaluate sitting on the edge for ease of getting up and sleeping on the edge without significant roll-off sensation.
Value for Money (10%)
Does the price match the performance? We compare the mattress against competitors at similar price points and consider trial length, warranty, and delivery value.
Testing Process
- 1
Mattress is delivered and set up in our test environment. We allow 48-72 hours for off-gassing and full expansion before testing begins.
- 2
Testers sleep on the mattress for a minimum of 30 nights across multiple positions, documenting nightly comfort and any pain or discomfort.
- 3
We conduct standardized physical tests: edge support load testing, motion transfer measurement, and surface temperature readings after 30 minutes of simulated body heat.
- 4
Testers complete a structured survey covering all 6 scoring categories. Multiple testers of different weights (under 130 lbs, 130–230 lbs, 230+ lbs) evaluate each mattress.
- 5
Scores are aggregated, weighted, and reviewed by our editorial team. No single tester's score determines the final rating.
- 6
We revisit reviews every 6-12 months to update pricing, availability, and any changes in product formulation.
Affiliate Disclosure
MattressQuizzz participates in affiliate programs. When you click links to mattress brands and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This commission helps fund our independent testing operation. Affiliate status does not influence our scores, rankings, or review content — we have reviewed and rated mattresses that have no affiliate relationship, and have given poor scores to brands where we do have affiliate relationships.
